World Obesity Patient Summit 2018 – Call for Applications

Are you a patient or a member of a patient group interested in advocacy? Apply now to attend the Patient Summit in October 2018

To coincide with World Obesity Day, the World Obesity Federation will hold a Patient Summit on 10-11 October in London. Patients and people living with obesity are invited to join them and to explore the perceptions of obesity by healthcare professionals, media, policy-makers and society and receive training to advocate on a global platform.

The Summit will provide:
An insight into the latest political, scientific and societal factors relating to obesity
Patient advocacy training for use on both a national and global platform
An exploration of current perceptions of obesity by healthcare professionals, media, policy-makers and society
Facilitated discussion on the barriers and enablers to effective advocacy for obesity
Opportunities to provide input into international advocacy and policy campaigns
Global patient networking opportunities

This event will comprise of presentations, workshops, advocacy training and networking opportunities. Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered. Places are limited to 20 delegates and therefore to benefit from this training, World Obesity request that interested applicants:
Are either a patient or someone with a personal connection with obesity (either child, sibling or parent)
Have an interest, willingness and time to be involved with advocacy
Comfortable speaking about their experience and stigma (previous media experience is useful but not a requirement as training will be provided)
Are able to participate in pre- and post-workshop activities
Have a good command of the English language
