Student Volunteers Needed for ECO2023 (application deadline Friday 31st March)

The 30th European Congress on Obesity (ECO2023) will take place in the Convention Centre, Dublin from 17-20th May 2023, and the ASOI committee are delighted to co-host this event alongside the European Association for the Study of Obesity.

As the meeting fast approaches, preparations are underway to ensure a fantastic event for all attendees, and ensure we extend a warm Céad Míle Fáilte to our international colleagues. In doing so, we want to ensure that the meeting runs seamlessly, and this is where we are offering student healthcare professionals the opportunity to join the event.

We are inviting students from Irish undergraduate & postgraduate health-related courses to apply as an ECO2023 volunteer. This will entail committing to a minimum of 12 hours of your time over 2-4 days, in exchange for free conference registration, lunch and attendance at social events. If you have already registered and you are subsequently appointed as a volunteer, your registration fee can be refunded. Please note that unfortunately we are not in a position to provide accommodation. You do not need to be an ASOI member to apply.

Why volunteer?

Having a role in an event like this will be a fantastic addition to your CV or student portfolio, and in the process, you will have the chance to engage and network with international experts in obesity and the various associated fields of expertise. In addition, the quality of the programme for ECO2023 is outstanding, and free registration will allow for invaluable opportunities for professional development in gaining the most up to date knowledge in this field.

What would I have to do?

Volunteers would be asked to partake in one or more of the following tasks: dealing with registration, scanning barcodes of delegates as they enter/exit sessions, packing and distributing conference materials, helping at the registration desk, assisting attendees, managing roving microphones during scientific sessions, directing delegates or similar tasks as guided by the conference organiser.

Who can apply?

This opportunity is open to any full-time or part-time undergraduate or postgraduate students registered in relevant health professional disciplines, whether or not they are an ASOI member. We anticipate needing around 40 volunteers, and will offer a place to students who demonstrate a keen willingness to partake and a strong interest in attending the meeting.
